Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) has announced a recall affecting 18,196 GL1800 Goldwing motorcycles, specifically those produced from 2018 to 2021. The recall, registered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under campaign number 24V820000, addresses a critical issue with the primary drive gear bolt on the crankshaft.
According to Honda, the primary drive gear bolt on the crankshaft may break unexpectedly, which can lead to an engine stall and even cause the rear wheel to lock up. This defect significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury while riding, especially if it occurs at higher speeds.
To fix the problem, Honda will provide a remedy by replacing the primary drive gear bolt on all affected motorcycles. This service will be performed free of charge at authorized Honda dealerships. Honda has stated that it will mail out owner notification letters by December 20, 2024. Riders of affected Goldwing motorcycles can also reach out to Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870 for more details on the recall or to confirm if their bike is involved.
Additionally, motorcycle owners may contact the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit the NHTSA website at www.nhtsa.gov to check their vehicle’s recall status or get more information.
Honda’s proactive recall seeks to ensure rider safety and maintain reliability for its popular Goldwing model. Riders are encouraged to complete the necessary repairs promptly to avoid any potential issues with the drive gear bolt.
