2027 Kia EV3 Hits U.S. Showrooms Today, Starting at $29,890 With 321 Miles of Range

Kia‘s most affordable electric vehicle is now in showrooms. The 2027 Kia EV3 went on sale in the U.S. today, bringing a sub-$30,000 entry point, up to 321 miles of EPA-estimated range, and a feature list that pulls heavily from the larger EV9 down into a compact SUV package that most American buyers can actually afford.

The timing is notable. Kia arrives with a six-trim lineup, dual battery options, available all-wheel drive, and an interior display suite matching the EV9’s nearly 30-inch combined dash display, all priced well below where the broader EV market has historically tried to sell compact electrics. The EV3 also arrives with the Green Car of the Year award from Green Car Journal already in hand, having gathered more than 75,000 global sales in 2025 before its U.S. debut.

Powertrain and Range

Two battery options underpin the lineup. The entry Light trim carries a 58.3 kWh pack driving the front wheels only, with an EPA-estimated 221 miles of range and fuel economy rated at 127/103/115 MPGe city/highway/combined. Every other trim steps up to the 81.4 kWh long-range battery, which enables up to 321 miles of range in front-wheel-drive configuration and 280 miles when paired with the available AWD system. FWD models on the larger pack return 131/104/117 MPGe; AWD models on the Wind, Land, and GT-Line rate 110/96/103 MPGe.

The GT, the performance top of the lineup, bumps output to 288 hp versus 261 hp on standard AWD models, pairs that with a sport-tuned suspension and steering, and rates at 112/94/103 MPGe. All GT and GT-Line models are AWD standard; Wind and Land buyers can choose either layout.

DC fast charging works through a native NACS port on the passenger side of the vehicle. The 58.3 kWh Light battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in an estimated 29 minutes; the 81.4 kWh pack takes an estimated 31 minutes for the same window. Kia’s Plug and Charge feature handles authentication automatically after a one-time setup through the Kia Charge Pass in the Kia Access app, so plugging in at a compatible station is the only step required at the charger.

Kia’s i-Pedal 3.0 system allows one-pedal driving to a full stop using only the accelerator, now extending that function to reverse as well. The system pairs with the Smart Regeneration System to recapture braking energy adaptively. For buyers with compatible home setups, available Vehicle to Load (V2L) functionality lets the EV3 power external devices from its battery. Available Vehicle to Home (V2H) capability, via a Wallbox bidirectional charging system sold separately, can push power back to the home during peak usage periods or outages, with the 81.4 kWh battery projected to provide up to 2.5 days of backup power to portions of a home based on average 25 kWh daily usage.

Interior, Tech, and Infotainment

The cabin centers on a panoramic display assembly that Kia specifies at nearly 30 inches of combined width: a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 5-inch climate display between them, the same total as the EV9. The connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) system that debuted on EV9 manages the whole stack, with over-the-air update capability and access to Kia’s Connect store for expanded features.

Available Entertainment and Data Services adds Netflix and YouTube video streaming, gaming, and productivity apps to the car’s built-in data connection, using Verizon’s 4G LTE network. The ccNC system also supports themed dashboard graphics tied to Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, Star Wars, and the NBA, purchasable through the Kia Connect store. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. Kia’s voice-recognition AI Assistant uses machine learning to adapt to individual usage patterns over time.

Available tech worth noting includes a 12-inch head-up display, a 360-degree Surround-View Monitor, Blind-spot View Monitor, a premium eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and multicolor ambient mood lighting. The optional Digital Key 2.0 feature turns a compatible smartphone into a virtual car key with remote sharing capability. A three-month free trial of MyQ Connected Garage, which monitors and controls a compatible garage door from the infotainment system, comes standard.

Cargo flexibility is genuinely useful for the class. With the second row folded, the EV3 offers 56.5 cubic feet of space. Behind the second row, 26.1 cubic feet is available, and there’s a 0.9 cubic foot frunk as well. Rear seatbacks recline up to 39 degrees. The center console uses a retractable cupholder design to allow for larger items when the holders aren’t in use.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Eight airbags are standard across the lineup, including rear side airbags. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist covers two intersection scenarios: FCA Junction Turning monitors for oncoming vehicles when turning left with the signal active, and FCA Junction Crossing monitors cross-traffic when proceeding straight through an intersection. Both engage audible and visual warnings before automatic emergency braking in certain conditions.

Available systems include Highway Driving Assist 2, Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance Assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist. The HDA2 system handles combined lane centering and adaptive cruise control on compatible federal highways.

Trim Lineup and Pricing

Six trims span the EV3 lineup. The Light FWD starts at $29,890; the Wind is $34,990 in FWD or $38,690 with AWD; the Land is $38,490 FWD or $41,690 AWD; the GT-Line AWD comes in at $43,490; and the GT AWD tops the range at $45,890. All prices exclude the $1,495 destination charge.

The GT-Line and GT bring distinct styling touches to the upper end of the range. The GT gets unique 19-inch wheels with neon green brake caliper covers that continue through the interior on seatbelts, the steering wheel, and trim accents, along with sport bucket front seats. The GT-Line adds a three-spoke steering wheel, metal pedals, and off-white two-tone seating.

A U.S.-exclusive Nightfall black appearance package, available on Wind and standard on Land, adds gloss black wheels, black emblems, bridge-type roof rails, and a dark gray interior color scheme. Standard trims use 17-inch alloy wheels; 19-inch alloys are available on other grades. Flush front door handles and hidden rear door handles carry over the clean side profile Kia established with the EV9.

At $29,890, the EV3 Light undercuts where most compact electrics have historically landed, entering territory closer to the Chevy Bolt EV and Nissan LEAF than to the $40,000-plus pricing that has kept much of the EV segment out of reach for younger and first-time buyers. That gap is exactly what Kia is targeting, and the 321-mile upper range figure gives buyers on the fence about range anxiety a credible answer on paper. The GT’s 288 hp adds a performance angle that the entry price alone doesn’t tell.

Kia built its EV9 reputation on feature density at a price that undercut the German alternatives. The EV3 runs the same play one segment lower, and it arrives with the hardware, the range, and the pricing to make the argument stick.
