Kia just broke its own record. The brand sold 83,793 units in August 2026, a 1 percent gain over August 2025’s 83,007 units and a new all-time high for any single month in Kia America’s history.
Six nameplates set individual August records: Seltos led the group with a 53 percent year-over-year jump to 9,214 units, followed by Carnival (+13 percent, 7,389 units), K4 (+7 percent, 12,881 units), Telluride (+4 percent, 12,693 units), Sportage (+4 percent, 18,723 units), and K5 (+4 percent, 7,523 units). Sportage remained the brand’s volume leader for the month by a wide margin.
Electrified powertrains supplied the growth story beneath the headline number. Hybrid sales surged 99 percent year-over-year in August, and the broader electrified lineup rose 36 percent. The Sportage Hybrid gained 40 percent, the Sorento Hybrid 22 percent, and the Carnival Hybrid 15 percent. Year-to-date through August, hybrid sales are up 111 percent and total electrified models up 60 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
Those are not small moves. Kia crossed 800,000 annual units for the first time in 2025, and the hybrid acceleration suggests the brand isn’t simply selling more of the same mix.
Bundled with the monthly figures, Kia disclosed pricing on three 2027 models.
The EV3 is the most consequential number: $29,890 plus $1,495 destination for the entry trim of Kia’s new small electric SUV. The lineup runs from the Light trim through Wind and Land to a GT variant with a dual-motor AWD setup and 288 hp. The Wind FWD and Land FWD trims carry the headline range figure of up to 321 EPA-estimated miles. DC fast charging is standard across the lineup. Kia frames the EV3 as the affordable entry point into its electric portfolio, pitched below the EV6 and EV9 in both size and price.
The 2027 Sportage ICE starts at $28,990. Most of the gas model carries over, but the X-Line trim picks up a standard Panoramic Sunroof and Smart Power Liftgate, features previously confined to the X-Line Premium Package. The move aligns X-Line ICE equipment with the Sportage Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid on those specific features, simplifying the powertrain choice for buyers who don’t want to give up equipment to go gas.
The 2027 Niro also opens at $29,890. Offered exclusively as a hybrid, the Niro adds a new S trim alongside the existing LX, EX, and SX. Visual changes include redesigned front and rear fascias with Kia’s Star Map lighting signature and new exterior colors. Inside, newly available driver assistance tech includes Highway Driving Assist 2, a 360-degree Surround View Monitor, and a Blind-Spot View Monitor. Over-the-air update capability arrives via the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit system.
On-sale timing for the EV3 has not been announced beyond the model year designation.
The broader trajectory into year-end looks straightforward on paper: cumulative sales through August sit at 590,377 units, up 3 percent over 2025’s pace. Kia has posted three consecutive annual records. A fourth would require the brand to sustain that pace through a fourth quarter that will include the EV3’s retail launch.
The EV3’s $29,890 entry price is the swing variable. At that number, with 321 miles of range on offer, it lands in territory where affordability arguments for gasoline holdouts get harder to make.
