2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid Hits Dealerships With 38 MPG Combined and No Transmission

Nissan‘s best-selling nameplate just got a powertrain its gas-only version never could offer. The 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid e-POWER is reaching dealerships this week, starting with the all-wheel-drive SR with Technology Package in limited quantities before the full SV, SR, and Platinum lineup arrives in January 2027.

The number that matters most is 38 mpg combined. Nissan’s EPA estimates break down to 41 city and 36 highway, figures that reflect how the e-POWER system actually works: a gasoline engine runs exclusively as a generator, feeding a pair of electric motors that handle all propulsion. There is no transmission. There is no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels. That architecture is unlike anything else in the compact crossover segment, and it’s why Nissan can credibly claim the only 100-percent electric drivetrain among hybrids in its class. It’s also why the throttle response feels different from a conventional parallel hybrid, where the combustion engine kicks in mechanically at speed. With e-POWER, the electric motors are always in charge of the car’s motion.

Nissan claims the Rogue Hybrid delivers the quickest acceleration and the best 60-0 mph braking among hybrid competitors in the mainstream midsize crossover segment, with that acceleration data independently certified by AMCI Testing. The outgoing gas-only Rogue uses a 201-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder, a respectable figure for the class. Nissan has not shared output figures for the Rogue Hybrid’s dual-motor setup, but the e-POWER architecture’s instant torque delivery is what the acceleration claim leans on, not a raw horsepower number.

The e-POWER system earned a 2026 Wards 10 Best Engines award before the Rogue Hybrid even reached dealers, which is an unusual sequence. The engineering case was apparently strong enough on its own. Nissan will give the broader public its first look at the 2027 Rogue Hybrid at the Los Angeles Auto Show, running November 20–29.

The competitive context makes the timing pointed. Through September 2026, the Rogue sits third in compact crossover sales at 201,991 units, up 26.1 percent over the same period in 2025, trailing the Honda CR-V at 336,844 and the Toyota RAV4 at 253,664. The CR-V and RAV4 both offer hybrid variants; this is Nissan’s answer. Whether the e-POWER system’s series-hybrid architecture is distinctive enough to pull buyers away from those entrenched leaders is the real question the sales data will eventually answer, but the efficiency numbers give Nissan something concrete to advertise against them.

Pricing starts at $35,490, a figure Nissan set when it detailed the full 2027 Rogue lineup earlier this month. The SR with Technology Package is the only configuration available at launch; buyers after the base SV or the top-line Platinum will need to wait until early 2027. Nissan has not announced pricing for those additional trims.

For a brand that has spent the better part of two years rebuilding Rogue momentum, the Hybrid is the product it needed to arrive on time. It did.
