American Honda crossed 1 million units sold through August, a month ahead of where it stood in 2025, and did it with two fewer selling days and no Labor Day weekend in the count. The number that explains how: 36,776 hybrid vehicles in August alone, a new monthly record for the brand.
Total American Honda volume for August came in at 133,996 units, up 1.0% from a year ago and up 3.5% year to date at 1,027,465 units. Honda brand alone accounted for 122,174 of those August units, up 0.4% for the month and up 3.4% year to date. Acura added 11,822 units, a 6.5% gain.
The hybrid story is running through every corner of the Honda lineup. August’s 36,776 hybrid units represent a 9.2% year-to-date increase, with the CR-V hybrid specifically posting its own August record. For the year, car sales for the Honda brand are up 16.3% through August, a gain that would be difficult to explain without the hybrid mix pulling buyers into the showroom. Passenger car volume in August hit 41,056 units, up 10.1% for the month, with the Accord posting its best August since 2020 at 18,691 units. The Civic crossed 20,000 units for the sixth consecutive month at 21,976, and the Prelude recorded its best month since launch at 389 units.
The CR-V continued its run as the best-selling SUV in America through 2026. August volume came in above 37,000 units, up 10.2% for the month and up 8.3% year to date, and Honda says the model is on pace for its third consecutive record year. The Passport set a new August record with a 16% month-over-month gain, its second-best month of all time. Pilot delivered 9,978 units, maintaining what amounts to a 10,000-unit-per-month average for the year. HR-V posted 14,251 units, its best month since March 2025, while Odyssey held its position in the minivan segment at 6,945 units. Honda light truck sales totaled 81,118 for the month, down 3.8%, though the year-to-date truck figure of 625,041 reflects the year’s more complicated volume pattern.
Acura’s results were led from both ends of the lineup. The MDX posted 5,016 units in August, up 66.3% for the month and 21.3% year to date, its fourth strong month in a row. At the entry level, the ADX moved 3,015 units, up 17.4%, and holds roughly 30% of its segment’s retail sales. The Integra gained 20.5% to 2,102 units, dominating its segment with more than 40% retail share. Acura SUV volume topped 9,700 units on 16.5% growth. Acura cars came in at 2,108 units, down 23.7% for the month.
New-vehicle sales across the industry are expected to contract in August against a prior-year period inflated by a rush of purchases ahead of expiring federal EV credits. Honda is growing into that headwind. A million units in eight months, and the hybrid line hasn’t shown any sign of leveling off.
