At the recent Mecum Indy Auction, a unique 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 Convertible fetched an impressive $242,000 after fees. This standout vehicle, which has only 30 miles on the odometer, is a Dodge-authorized custom convertible conversion completed by Jeff Moran and his team at Droptop Customs. It is number 1,100 of the 3,300 Demon 170s produced, making it a rare and desirable addition to any car enthusiast’s collection.
High-Performance Specifications –
Under the hood, the Demon 170 Convertible boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter C170 HEMI® HELLEPHANT V8 engine, delivering an astounding 1,025 horsepower. An 8-speed automatic transmission manages this immense power. The car can launch from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.66 seconds and cover a quarter mile in 8.91 seconds.
Distinctive Design and Features –
The exterior of this powerful convertible is finished in Pitch Black, while the interior features luxurious Demonic Red leather. The cabin is enhanced with carbon fiber accents, adding a touch of modern sophistication. Factory staggered alloy wheels and 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS provide both style and stopping power.
Key interior features include a push-button start, power windows and locks, a center console, and a multi-function steering wheel. The vehicle has premium amenities such as ventilated front seats, a suede headliner, and a Harman Kardon® 18-speaker premium audio system with a trunk-mounted subwoofer. Additional conveniences include power multi-function mirrors with manual fold-away, a premium-stitched dash panel, rain-sensitive windshield wipers, and automatic high-beam headlamp control. Safety features like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection enhance the driving experience.
Additional Details and Significance –
Originally, the MSRP of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 was $119,951 from the factory. However, the convertible conversion and its rarity significantly boosted its value at auction. Jeff Moran, the owner of Droptop Customs, not only performed the conversion on this particular vehicle but also converted his own F8 Green Demon 170 into a convertible, highlighting the custom shop’s expertise and passion for these high-performance machines.
The Premium Group package adds luxury with Black Alcantara and Laguna leather, complementing Laguna leather seats and door trim panels. The 170 Satin Black hood graphic adds a distinctive touch, making this vehicle a powerhouse and a visually striking collector’s item.
Considering how the prices of Demon 170s have declined for the past several months, we were very interested in how one faired at Mecum. Surprisingly, it went for around the same price as some of the earlier auction block Demon 170s. Nevertheless, someone got their hands on one hell of a summer cruiser.
