Stellantis Recalls 1.08 Million Wranglers and Gladiators Over Steering-Pump Fire Risk

2024 Jeep® Gladiator Mojave X. (Jeep).

Stellantis is recalling 1,076,999 model-year 2021–2025 Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators to address wiring in the electric hydraulic power steering pump that can overheat and ignite, the company announced today. Owners are advised to park the vehicles away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is completed.

The defect involves an electrical connection issue in the steering pump wiring that, in rare circumstances, may cause combustible materials near the pump to overheat and potentially lead to a vehicle fire. Stellantis says it is working to accelerate remedy availability and anticipates a solution no later than July. Affected customers will be notified by first-class mail when they can schedule service, with dealers set to inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace the wiring harness and the electric hydraulic power steering pump free of charge.

The parking-away-from-structures instruction is the operational signal that Stellantis considers the fire risk present and immediate. That language appears in recalls where the ignition path does not require the vehicle to be running or in motion.

The recall spans the 2021 through 2025 model years for both the Wrangler SUV and Gladiator pickup. Stellantis did not disclose how many fires have been attributed to the defect or whether injuries have been reported. An internal investigation identified the steering-pump wiring issue, prompting the recall out of what the company calls an abundance of caution.

Additional vehicles will be recalled in Canada (106,258 estimated), Mexico (23,704 estimated), and markets outside North America (124,297 estimated), bringing the global total to more than 1.3 million units. Owners with questions can contact Stellantis customer care at 1-800-853-1403 or visit recalls.mopar.com.

This is the third fire-risk recall for the Wrangler and Gladiator in six years. Stellantis in March 2020 recalled certain 2018–2020 Wranglers and 2020 Gladiators equipped with manual transmissions after the clutch pressure plate was found to overheat and fracture, expelling hot debris from the transmission case. That recall was expanded in March 2023 to cover model years through 2023, affecting more than 69,000 vehicles. At least two fires were attributed to the clutch issue.

The current recall targets a different system entirely, the electric hydraulic power steering pump, and affects a broader model-year span with a substantially larger unit count. Whether the wiring defect traces to a shared supplier or a common assembly process across the 2021–2025 production window has not been disclosed.
