Toyota is recalling approximately 44,000 model-year 2024 Tundra non-hybrid pickups for machining debris left in the engine during production, which can damage the main bearings and cause loss of motive power while driving. This is the third recall Toyota has issued for the same problem.
The debris can lead to engine knocking, rough running, no-start conditions, or loss of power at speed. A loss of motive power at higher speeds increases the risk of a crash. The affected engines were produced with additional debris-removal controls implemented after the first two recalls, in May 2024 and November 2025, but Toyota has determined that the remaining debris can still be sufficient to damage the number-one main bearing.
Toyota is still preparing the remedy and has not announced a repair procedure or timeline for customer notifications. The company says it aims to finalize the fix within the next couple of months and will contact owners in phases based on how long the vehicle has been in service. Owners experiencing symptoms should contact their dealer immediately.
Engines produced after the ones covered by this recall were manufactured with an improved number-one main bearing designed to resist debris that might remain in the block. For the first recall, announced in May 2024 and covering approximately 102,000 vehicles, dealers have already repaired more than 77,000 pickups using engines with the upgraded bearing, although there have been multiple reports of replacement engines failing.

The Tundra sold 159,528 units in 2024 but has faced headwinds. Sales dropped 7.9% in the third quarter of 2025, and the truck has now been the subject of multiple recalls in quick succession. In January 2026, Toyota recalled approximately 162,000 model year 2024-2025 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles for a multimedia display issue that prevented the rearview camera from functioning during reversing.
