Mercedes-Benz confirmed today that the GLC, its bestselling model globally, will arrive in the United States as an all-electric vehicle starting in the second half of 2026. The launch model is the GLC 400 4MATIC, which delivers 483 horsepower and up to 445 miles of range.
The GLC sold 64,163 units in the U.S. in 2024, and the SUV lineup that includes the GLC made up 61 percent of Mercedes passenger car sales in the first quarter of 2026. Mercedes stated in January that order books for the electric GLC are already filled well into the second half of the year, with demand exceeding initial expectations. The electric GLC will compete against the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Jaguar F-Pace in the premium compact crossover segment.
The electric GLC rides on a 3.3-inch longer wheelbase than the current gas-powered model, which translates to 1.9 inches more rear legroom and nearly two additional inches of front headroom. The cargo hold expands to 20.1 cubic feet behind the second row and 61.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. A front trunk adds 4.5 cubic feet of additional storage. The GLC 400 4MATIC can tow up to 5,291 pounds when equipped with the optional trailer hitch, and Mercedes includes ESP trailer stabilization and a digital trailer maneuvering assist system.

The 39.1-Inch Hyperscreen and MB.OS Supercomputer
The optional MBUX Hyperscreen measures 39.1 inches, making it the largest continuous screen Mercedes has installed in a production vehicle. The display uses matrix-backlight technology and coordinates with 11 ambient background styles that affect the instrument cluster, control elements, and interior lighting. The Hyperscreen runs on MB.OS, the Mercedes-Benz Operating System powered by chips capable of 254 trillion operations per second. Over-the-air updates cover the entire vehicle software stack, and the system integrates AI from ChatGPT 4o, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini into a single MBUX Virtual Assistant.
Navigation is based on Google Maps, developed through Mercedes’ partnership with Google Cloud. An augmented reality head-up display and what Mercedes calls Surround Navigation are available. The front passenger gets access to Microsoft Teams, video streaming apps, and direct Disney+ integration while the vehicle is stationary or, in some markets, in motion.
The SKY CONTROL panoramic roof includes switchable glass and ambient lighting that projects 162 illuminated stars. Mercedes offers an optional Vegan Package certified by The Vegan Society, covering seat upholstery, headliner, pillar and door trim panels, and carpeting. The company stated this is the first independently certified vegan interior offered by an automaker.

The GLC 400 4MATIC includes rear-axle steering with a 4.5-degree steering angle for tighter turning circles and an optional air suspension borrowed from the S-Class. A One-Box braking system blends regenerative and friction braking into what Mercedes describes as exceptionally smooth deceleration. The MB.DRIVE advanced driver assistance suite uses ten external cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors.
The electric GLC includes a TERRAIN MODE drive program that adjusts powertrain, steering, and brake characteristics for gravel or dirt surfaces. A transparent hood function stitches together images from the front camera and exterior mirror cameras to provide a virtual view under the front of the vehicle, useful for navigating obstacles on trails or in tight parking situations.
Mercedes offers automated reservation for charging stations at its own charging hubs through MB.CHARGE Public, which the company stated is the first such feature offered by an automaker. The system integrates into the navigation interface and handles booking without requiring the driver to interact with a separate app.

The all-new electric GLC marks Mercedes’ first model on a dedicated electric-vehicle architecture within what the company described as a completely new vehicle family. The illuminated chrome grille, which Mercedes called a redesigned brand-defining element, debuts on the GLC and will roll out across the lineup. The dynamic shoulder lines and pronounced wheel arches carry over the proportions of the current GLC into the electric generation.
Mercedes has not disclosed U.S. pricing for the electric GLC. The current gas-powered 2026 GLC starts at $50,800, and the plug-in hybrid GLC 350e 4MATIC starts at $61,550. The electric model will almost certainly slot above both, given the 483-horsepower output, the 445-mile range claim, and the Hyperscreen and air suspension hardware that define the launch trim.
The GLC was Mercedes’ bestselling model globally in the first half of 2025. The electric version arriving in the second half of 2026 will test whether U.S. buyers are ready to follow that shift, or whether the gas-powered model that delivered more than 64,000 sales in 2024 still has a constituency Mercedes will need to serve.
