2026 Toyota GRMN Corolla: 300 hp, No Rear Seats, 730 Units, $64,360

Toyota just deleted the rear seats. That is the most efficient summary of what separates the 2026 GRMN Corolla from the GR Corolla it’s built on, and it tells you everything about the philosophy behind the car. Seven hundred thirty units will be built globally, priced at $64,360, and available late summer in exactly two colors: Zero Gravity and Gravel. If you wanted more options than that, you were never the target customer.

The GRMN designation sits above GR in Toyota’s performance hierarchy, reserved for cars that go through Nürburgring development under the direct supervision of Morizo, the racing alter-ego of Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda. The mandate for this one was explicit: if it carries the GRMN name, it must run the Nürburgring properly. The GR team took that literally, using repeated circuit runs to surface issues that ordinary testing never would have exposed, and then fixing them one by one before the car reached production.

The Engine and the Weight Argument

Power comes from Toyota’s G16E-GTS 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder, the same engine that anchors the GR Corolla lineup, but tuned harder here. Peak output is 300 hp at 6,500 rpm. Torque climbs to 302 lb-ft, with the development team deliberately targeting the 4,000–4,600 rpm range that matters most when accelerating out of corners on a circuit. The intercooler spray system helps sustain that output during prolonged full-throttle running, a direct response to what the GR team learned competing in the Super Taikyu endurance series. A cool-air duct, first added to the updated 2026 GR Corolla after the same Nürburgring lessons, also carries over.

Where the GRMN really makes its argument is in mass reduction. Stripping the rear seats saves 66 pounds compared to the standard GR Corolla, and the carbon-fiber body panels do the rest of the work. The hood, front fenders, front side spoilers, and rear wing are all carbon. The curb weight lands at 3,218.7 pounds, a figure that means something when paired with 302 lb-ft going through GR-FOUR all-wheel drive and a close-ratio six-speed intelligent Manual Transmission with rev-matching. Toyota calls this an improvement in power-to-weight ratio. That’s accurate, and in a segment where the Volkswagen Golf R and Honda Civic Type R compete with more mass and less focused intent, the GRMN Corolla’s willingness to remove a back seat is a statement of priorities.

Aero and Suspension Built at the Track

The aerodynamic package on the GRMN Corolla wasn’t designed in a wind tunnel and signed off by a committee. It was refined running a hydrogen-powered GR Corolla in Super Taikyu competition, then refined further at the Nürburgring by adjusting the rear wing angle in 1-degree increments with professional drivers in the seat. The wing itself has a five-step adjustment mechanism, which means owners can tune downforce to suit different circuits or driving preferences. Hood ducts, fender ducts, and front side spoilers round out a package that exists to keep all four wheels loaded at high lateral G.

Suspension is equally specific. The GRMN uses exclusive monotube shock absorbers front and rear with internal rebound springs, developed to address the Nürburgring’s particular character: large vertical suspension travel over rough surfaces that exposes weaknesses no conventional test track can replicate. The team adjusted shock stroke down to the millimeter at both ends to find the right balance between compliance over rough pavement and composure at speed. Up front, the geometry runs MacPherson-type inverted monotubes; the rear uses a double-wishbone multilink arrangement with upright monotube shocks. Brakes are 14-inch ventilated rotors with four-piston calipers up front, 11.7-inch ventilated rotors with two-piston units at the rear.

Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s in 245/40ZR18, mounted on 18-inch matte-bronze ten-spoke forged aluminum wheels. The electric power steering control program was retuned to generate appropriate assist torque during high-g cornering, where a standard EPS calibration would typically reduce assistance to manage feel. The GR-FOUR AWD system also carries exclusive tuning for the GRMN, optimizing rear torque distribution during straight-line acceleration while enhancing stability at the onset of steering input at high speeds.

Inside: Two Seats, Suede, and Morizo’s Signature

With the rear seats gone, what remains is a cockpit built around two semi-bucket seats upholstered in black and red Brin Naub suede and synthetic leather. The lateral bolstering is purposeful rather than decorative. The instrument panel is flocked, a material choice that reduces reflections and visual distraction, and the front pillar trim matches. A carbon ornament fabricated at the Motomachi Plant’s carbon division sits on the passenger-side instrument panel. Morizo’s signature is embossed on the dash pad. Door trim and the shift knob carry Alumite red accenting, and each car receives a GRMN-exclusive serial number plate.

The technology package is straightforward: an 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster standard. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 comes as standard equipment, covering pre-collision detection with pedestrian recognition, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and proactive driving assist. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also fitted.

Every GRMN Corolla includes a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association and a complimentary High-Performance Driving Event with expert instruction. That’s an unusual bundled value for a factory car, and it reflects Toyota’s acknowledgment that 300 hp, Cup 2 tires, and no back seats requires a specific skillset to exploit properly.

The GR Corolla has found a committed audience since its 2023 debut, outselling segment expectations in a hot hatchback space that includes the Golf R and Civic Type R. The GRMN Corolla is not a volume play. At 730 units globally with a $64,360 entry point, it exists to define the ceiling of what the platform can do. Strip the seats, add the carbon, tune the shocks at the Nürburgring, and you find out. The line for a GRMN plate starts now.
