2027 Toyota Corolla Hatchback Gets Bigger Screens and a Lower Starting Price Than Most Rivals

Toyota is leaning into the Corolla Hatchback’s price advantage for 2027. The updated model arrives this summer starting at $24,780, giving buyers upgraded digital displays, a broader color palette, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 across every trim, all while staying well clear of what the Honda Civic Hatchback asks at the door. At nearly $32,000 to start, the Civic sits in a different price bracket, and Toyota is not letting that gap go unnoticed.

The 2027 Corolla Hatchback comes in two grades: SE at $24,780 and XSE at $27,875, both before Toyota’s $1,195 dealer processing and handling fee. The changes this year are concentrated in the cabin’s tech stack. The SE now comes standard with a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, an upgrade from what the outgoing model offered. Buyers who want more can add the new SE Premium Package, which bundles a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with a 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen. The XSE gets both the larger gauge cluster and the 10.5-inch multimedia system as standard equipment, no package required.

Both grades start with an 8-inch touchscreen as the base multimedia display, paired with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, and a six-speaker audio system. Five-year trials of Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect are included, alongside a 30-day, 3 GB Wi-Fi Connect trial. The Corolla nameplate has accumulated a following built on reliability and value over decades, and the tech content here reads as a deliberate effort to modernize that story without inflating the price.

Mechanically, nothing has changed, which is not a criticism. The 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder produces 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque through a Dynamic Shift CVT that earns its distinction from conventional belt-and-pulley units by incorporating a physical launch gear for off-the-line acceleration. The launch gear handles initial pull-away before the CVT takes over, giving the car a more direct feel off a stoplight than most CVT-equipped competitors manage. Paddle shifters engage 10 pre-set ratios across all grades, and NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT drive modes let drivers adjust the character of the responses. Toyota’s manufacturer-estimated fuel economy for the SE lands at 32 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.

The TNGA-C platform underneath is a known quantity by now. MacPherson strut suspension up front and a multi-link setup at the rear deliver handling that punches above the Corolla’s price point, with a low center of gravity that shows up in how composed the car feels through corners. It is not a hot hatch, but it moves with enough intent to justify the hatchback body style over a sedan.

On the outside, Toyota added three colors to the palette: Inked, Blueprint, and Blueprint with Black Roof join the existing options. The full exterior menu now includes Blueprint, Inferno, Inked, Classic Silver Metallic, Finish Line Red, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl, and Ice Cap. Two-tone black roof combinations are available with Blueprint, Classic Silver Metallic, Finish Line Red, Magnetic Gray Metallic, and Wind Chill Pearl. New for this model year are Toyota Genuine accessory 18-inch gloss white alloy wheels, though buyers should note that SE-grade buyers need to purchase 225/40R18 tires separately to fit them.

Inside, the SE offers a 6-way adjustable fabric driver’s seat and a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat. The XSE steps up to an 8-way power-adjustable SofTex-trimmed driver’s seat and a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat, with both front seats heated. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every Corolla Hatchback and covers Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is also standard across all grades.

The car is assembled at Toyota’s Tsutsumi Plant in Aichi, Japan. The Corolla nameplate has been the best-selling automobile nameplate since 1997, and Toyota reached 54 million units sold under the Corolla name as of early 2026. Over the first half of 2026, just 1,037 units separated Corolla and Civic in segment sales, with Honda ahead but Toyota having nearly closed the gap. For a nameplate competing in a category where average new-vehicle prices have climbed sharply, holding the Corolla Hatchback’s entry point below $25,000 is the clearest competitive statement Toyota can make.

The 2027 Corolla Hatchback arrives at dealers this summer. Separate pricing and details for the 2027 Corolla Sedan will follow at a later date. At $24,780 to start, it remains one of the few new cars that does not require a compromise between being well-equipped and being affordable.
