Lexus is recalling approximately 68,000 model year 2022–2024 NX crossovers after discovering a software defect that can cause portions of the 7-inch combination meter display to go blank at startup, potentially hiding critical warnings from the driver. The recall covers the NX 250, NX 350, NX 350h, and NX 450h+ built between April 8, 2021 and March 28, 2024.
The defect is an initialization error in the combination meter. When it triggers, the affected display area goes dark and may conceal engine oil pressure, coolant temperature, or electrical charge readings. A driver who cannot see those indicators may not respond to an emerging mechanical problem in time, raising the risk of a crash. Toyota began receiving reports of blank meter displays in 2023 and, through fault-tree analysis and bench testing running through 2026, eventually reproduced the condition in controlled testing.

The fix is a software update to the combination meter, available free of charge at any Lexus dealership. Toyota says the update may also be pushed over-the-air in the future for vehicles that support OTA functionality. Owner notification letters are expected to go out by late December 2026.
The NX is Lexus’s second-best-selling model in the U.S. market, trailing only the RX. It moved 74,526 units in 2023 and 74,488 in 2024, which puts the scope of this recall at roughly one year’s worth of sales volume for the nameplate. Toyota confirms the defect requires no hardware replacement, only the software correction, which should keep dealer appointment times short once notifications land.
This recall is part of a pattern extending beyond the NX. Across Toyota and Lexus combined, more than a million vehicles have been recalled for similar instrument display failures, pointing to a recurring software vulnerability in the digital cluster systems the brands share across multiple platforms.
The NHTSA campaign number was not included in the October 23 filing; owners can confirm involvement by entering their VIN at toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls. Owners with questions can contact Toyota’s Brand Engagement Center at 1-800-331-4331.
