2027 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Edizione Luna Rossa Bring Carbon Fibre and Sailing DNA to Canada

Alfa Romeo chose the backdrop of the Golfo di Napoli today, during the second preliminary regatta for the 2027 America’s Cup, to debut its Edizione Luna Rossa special series for the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV. The two models arrive in Canada during the second quarter of 2027, and they represent the broadest expression yet of an Alfa Romeo-Luna Rossa partnership that has already produced one of the more compelling limited editions in recent memory.

That earlier collaboration resulted in the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, a European-only, 10-unit run that sold out immediately and generated 140 kg of downforce at 186 mph. The Edizione Luna Rossa is a different exercise entirely: wider distribution, production-spec powertrain, and a focus on material character over outright performance. Both approaches have a logic to them.

What the Edizione Luna Rossa Actually Is

The visual brief pulls directly from Luna Rossa’s racing livery. Both models are available in white as standard, with black and Etna red as options, and the color palette is anchored by dedicated red Alfa Romeo logos, carbon-fibre mirror caps carrying the Luna Rossa logo, and dark wheel rims with red brake calipers. The Giulia rolls on 19-inch wheels; the Stelvio on 21s. Carbon fibre carries through to the front badge, and the Giulia adds side skirts and a spoiler that nod to the Quadrifoglio’s visual language without pretending to be it.

Inside, the differentiation is more interesting. The seats use a combination of leather and ECONYL fabric, a 100-percent recycled nylon material produced partially from fishing nets recovered from the ocean floor. Carbon-fibre trim extends across the dashboard, center console, and door panels. The steering wheel carries a specific red Alfa Romeo logo; Luna Rossa graphics appear on the dashboard. It is a coherent interior package rather than a badge-and-floor-mat exercise.

Standard equipment on both models includes the Harman Kardon audio system and electronically controlled suspension, two items that typically occupy option-box territory on standard Giulia and Stelvio trims. The Giulia gets a standard electric sunroof; the Stelvio lists it as an option.

Powertrain

Under the hood, both models carry Alfa Romeo’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 280 hp and 306 lb-ft of torque, paired with standard Q4 all-wheel drive. That powertrain is the same unit the 2026 Stelvio and Giulia run, and it remains among the more driver-focused options in the segment. The Giorgio platform’s steering and chassis feedback has consistently separated these cars from the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC at comparable price points, and nothing in the Edizione Luna Rossa package changes that underlying dynamic.

The Technical Partnership

Alfa Romeo frames the Luna Rossa relationship as active technical collaboration rather than pure sponsorship, and there is at least one concrete application worth noting. The company’s simulator operation, which functions as a center of excellence within the Stellantis network, is contributing to the development and tuning of control software for the systems that manage Luna Rossa’s sail movement. That software is first validated in the Luna Rossa simulator before going aboard the actual AC40. Whether that cross-pollination improves either the sailing team’s performance or Alfa Romeo’s own vehicle dynamics work is not yet measurable, but the collaboration has a genuine engineering axis to it.

The partnership announced in June 2025 has expanded steadily. Members of the Luna Rossa crew participated in the 43rd 1000 Miglia aboard a 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint from the brand’s Heritage Hub Italy collection. The Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa made its debut at the Brussels Motor Show in January and appeared at the Ultimate Supercar Garage in Paris shortly after.

Canada Availability and Pricing

The 2027 Giulia and Stelvio Edizione Luna Rossa are confirmed for Canadian delivery in Q2 2027. Alfa Romeo has not announced pricing for either model, with figures expected closer to the on-sale date. The current 2026 Stelvio starts at $49,995 in Canada before destination, which sets a rough floor for where the Edizione Luna Rossa will likely sit given its standard-equipment upgrades.

Six teams compete in Naples through September 27 aboard AC40 foils. The 38th America’s Cup follows in 2027, the first time the event has been held in Italy. Alfa Romeo will be there, and so will its cars. Whether the sailing team wins is another matter, but as a platform for limited editions with genuine material ambition, the partnership has already delivered more than most sponsorship arrangements manage.
