Ram is giving Canadian commercial truck buyers two new reasons to spec a Chassis Cab this year. For 2027, the 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab lineup gains an available 270-degree surround camera system and a Night Edition Package that brings blacked-out styling to Big Horn and Laramie models. Orders are open today.
The camera addition is the more operationally significant of the two updates. The system includes a Mopar wired auxiliary camera and trailer reverse guidance, giving operators a broader view of what’s happening around a vehicle that, by design, will almost always be working with an upfit body or trailer attached. For fleets running dump bodies, service cranes, or flatbeds, rearward visibility has always been a compromise built into the chassis-cab format. The 270-degree coverage doesn’t eliminate that compromise, but it narrows it in a measurable way.
The Night Edition Package, available on Regular Cab and Crew Cab configurations of the 3500, 4500, and 5500, adds black-painted wheels, satin black badging, a sport performance hood, ParkSense front and rear park assist, and a body-colour grille surround with matching front bumper and fender flares. It’s a purely cosmetic and convenience play, aimed at buyers who want their work truck to look like something other than a fleet vehicle. Ram priced the Night Edition starting at $3,045 on Laramie models when it first detailed the package.

Powertrains and Capability
Neither engine changes for 2027. The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 produces 375 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, paired to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic (HD version standard on 4500 and 5500). The 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 delivers 360 hp and 800 lb-ft, backed by heavy-duty pistons, a revised turbo, a performance intake manifold, larger intake and exhaust valves, and a higher-pressure fuel system. The diesel also features a top-load lubrication system for simplified maintenance and glow plug-assisted cold-start technology for Canadian winters.
Towing and payload figures vary significantly across the three model lines and two powertrains. The Ram 3500 Chassis Cab with the Cummins diesel reaches up to 25,680 pounds of towing and 6,830 pounds of payload, with a gross combined weight rating of 33,000 pounds. The HEMI-equipped 3500 tops out at 18,880 pounds of towing and 7,710 pounds of payload at a 25,000-pound GCWR. Stepping up to the 4500 with the diesel raises the ceiling to 29,440 pounds of towing, 8,560 pounds of payload, and a 37,500-pound GCWR. The 5500 Cummins pushes furthest: 34,540 pounds towing, 11,530 pounds payload, and a 43,000-pound GCWR.

| Model | Engine | Max Towing | Max Payload | GCWR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3500 | 6.7L Cummins Diesel | 25,680 lb | 6,830 lb | 33,000 lb |
| 3500 | 6.4L HEMI V8 | 18,880 lb | 7,710 lb | 25,000 lb |

Upfitter Design and Configuration
The Chassis Cab’s commercial appeal rests heavily on how well it accepts a body. Ram offers cab-to-axle lengths of 60, 84, 108, and 120 inches across the lineup, with no components or lines above the rear frame rails to interfere with upfit work. Through-the-frame plumbing and electrical routing, a rear-mounted DEF tank refill port, and power take-off capability for both left- and right-side operation are all carried forward. An available onboard power inverter delivers up to 2.4 kilowatts with a relocatable service point. Fuel capacity reaches up to 74 gallons across dual tanks, and an available dual alternator system provides up to 480 amps for equipment-heavy upfits. The Heavy Duty Snow Plow Prep Group comes standard on 3500 models and is available on the 4500 and 5500, a relevant detail in a country where that equipment sees real use.
Technology includes the available 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with split-screen operation, telescoping trailer tow mirrors with Trailer-Tow Pages, and the 270-degree camera system now joining the options list. Adaptive cruise control and Forward Collision Warning-Plus are standard. The available fully digital rearview mirror adds tow mode, Drowsy Driver Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Active Lane Management, features more relevant to a driver spending ten hours a day behind the wheel of a work truck than most of what gets marketing emphasis in the consumer space.
The 2027 Ram Chassis Cab is built at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant and is available in Tradesman, Big Horn, Night Edition, and Laramie trims across Regular and Crew Cab configurations. Ram has not announced Canadian MSRP figures for the 2027 model year. For a commercial buyer, the camera system alone may justify the spec conversation.
