Nissan is not reinventing the Armada for 2027. What it is doing is giving buyers who want the SL grade a way to make it look considerably more menacing, and backing that up with a lineup that now spans six trims from $64,290 to $84,590.
The headline addition is the Dark Armor package, a $1,900 option available exclusively on the Armada SL. It replaces the SL’s standard chrome trim with blacked-out roof rails, window trim, front grille, and lower fascia. The 20-inch wheels go black. So do the exterior badges. Inside, Dark Armor swaps in black upholstery, darkened accents on the dashboard, steering wheel, and center console, and adds a panoramic moonroof. The result sits somewhere between factory custom and fleet-grade sinister. It’s a visual package, full stop, with no mechanical content underneath.
Nissan has not announced whether the Dark Armor package will expand to other trims in future model years.
The broader 2027 lineup carries over the powertrain Nissan introduced on the current generation: a twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.5-liter V6 rated at 425 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel across most trims. The NISMO variant upgrades that figure to 460 hp on premium fuel, backed by NISMO-tuned suspension, brake, and steering components, plus a distinct exhaust note. That 460 hp rating makes the NISMO the most powerful production Armada Nissan has built.
Trim-by-trim pricing runs $64,290 for the SL 4×2, $67,290 for the SL 4×4, $75,790 for the Platinum 4×4, $78,990 for the PRO-4X, $80,690 for the NISMO 4×4, and $84,590 for the Platinum Reserve 4×4. Destination and handling adds $2,275 across the board.
The PRO-4X continues to anchor the off-road end of the lineup. It brings Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension with a maximum ground clearance of 11.6 inches, an electronic locking rear differential, all-terrain tires, eight selectable drive modes, and a metal underbody skid plate. Approach angle runs 30 to 33 degrees depending on suspension position. Invisible Hood View, Front Wide View, and a 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor give the driver a clear picture of terrain the hood would otherwise hide. The PRO-4X also gets an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller standard, which the SL and Platinum do not.
On the technology side, the Platinum and above grades gain a 14.3-inch NissanConnect touchscreen and a 14.3-inch Advanced Drive-Assist Display versus the 12.3-inch units on the SL. The Platinum Reserve is the only trim to get ProPILOT Assist 2.1 standard, though Platinum buyers can add it via the $3,300 Platinum AD2 Package. Audio across all trims is a Klipsch 12-speaker, 600-watt system with Active Sound Enhancement. In-car 5G Wi-Fi, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa built-in are standard throughout the range.
Towing capacity maxes out at 8,500 pounds when properly equipped, with 850 pounds of tongue weight. Cargo volume behind the third row is 20.4 cubic feet, expanding to 97.1 cubic feet with both rear rows folded. Fuel economy on the combined cycle runs 18 MPG for the 2WD SL, 17 MPG for 4WD trims, 17 MPG for the NISMO, and 16 MPG for the PRO-4X.
The Armada has been collecting credentials at a useful pace. Nissan’s large SUV tied for first in the J.D. Power 2026 APEAL Study’s Large SUV segment, and Consumer Reports named it the top-rated large SUV earlier this year, factoring in road tests, reliability, and owner satisfaction. U.S. News and World Report gave it Best Large SUV for Off-Roading in its 2026 Best Adventure Vehicles Awards. Nissan also points to S&P Global Mobility data showing that nine out of every 10 Armadas sold in the past decade are still on the road, a durability claim that resonates in a segment where resale and reliability are active purchase criteria.
None of that changes the fundamental shape of the 2027 update: this is a package-and-pricing refresh, not a mechanical revision. The Dark Armor option gives Nissan a way to pull conquest buyers who want the sinister-SUV look without leaving the SL’s equipment level. Whether $1,900 is the right ask for what is essentially a blackout trim kit is a question each buyer will answer at the dealer. What the Armada itself brings to that conversation, the awards shelf, the 460-hp NISMO, the PRO-4X’s genuine off-road hardware, gives the Dark Armor something solid to stand on.
