The 2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition arrives late summer as a mid-range off-road package slotted between the base SV and the serious PRO-4X. Built on the SV grade, the Sport Edition adds black 17-inch off-road-style wheels wrapped in 265/70R17 Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires, an aluminum skid plate, LED fog lights, and front accent lighting. Pricing will be announced early summer.

Nissan frames the package as a value play for buyers who want more capability than the SV provides without stepping up to the PRO-4X. The Sport Edition gets “Sport” graphics, a black lower fascia, black grille, black mirrors, and a two-tone interior with yellow stitching and trim accents. The approach mirrors what Toyota has done with the Tacoma TRD Sport, another mid-range trim that offers some off-road hardware without the suspension, differential, or crawl-control systems the top-spec models carry.

Every Frontier shares the same powertrain: a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V6 making 310 hp and 281 lb-ft, paired with a 9-speed automatic. Maximum towing capacity is 7,000 pounds when properly equipped. Nissan has leaned hard on the naturally aspirated V6 as a durability argument while competitors have moved to turbocharged four-cylinders, a positioning that depends on whether buyers believe the trade-off in specific output is worth the perceived longevity benefit.

The truck sits on body-on-frame construction with high-strength steel in the frame. Nissan claims 92 percent of Frontier trucks sold in the last 10 years are still on the road, a figure that suggests the platform holds up but also reflects the model’s relatively low sales volumes compared to segment leaders. Frontier sales were up 47.9 percent year-over-year in the first quarter of 2026, a strong gain off a modest baseline.

The Sport Edition’s positioning is straightforward. Buyers who were going to customize an SV anyway now get a factory package with the hardware most commonly bolted on aftermarket: all-terrain tires, skid plate protection, and off-road wheels. Nissan says the Frontier Lift Kit was the top-selling NISMO accessory in fiscal year 2025, and that Frontier alone accounted for over 25 percent of Nissan Motorsports accessory sales. The Sport Edition gives those buyers a starting point that is already trail-ready, with the NISMO Off Road catalog available for further modification under warranty.

The yellow interior accents are the visual tell, a design choice that makes the Sport Edition immediately identifiable inside. Whether that color scheme wears well or dates the truck is a question for resale time, but it gives the package a clear identity on the showroom floor.

Current 2026 Frontier pricing runs from $33,895 for the King Cab S to $44,115 for the Crew Cab PRO-4X Long Bed. The Sport Edition will slot somewhere in the middle when Nissan announces pricing early this summer. The truck arrives at dealers late summer, which puts it on showroom floors ahead of the fall off-road season.

If you have been waiting for a Frontier that splits the difference between workhorse SV and the PRO-4X’s full off-road commitment, the Sport Edition is the option Nissan has finally built for you.
