The 2027 Kia Telluride X-Pro showcases its rugged capability in a scenic mountain valley setting with lush green fields and winding waterway.

Kia took home two awards at the Midwest Automotive Media Association’s 2026 Spring Rally: the 2027 Telluride X-Pro won Favorite Family Vehicle, and the 2026 K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo won Favorite Affordable Vehicle. The rally ran May 19–21 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

The Telluride X-Pro is the redesigned 2027 variant of Kia’s three-row midsize SUV. The X-Pro designation signals off-road capability within the Telluride lineup, though Kia’s release does not detail what mechanical or cosmetic changes separate the X-Pro from the standard Telluride beyond available all-wheel drive and a suite of driver assistance systems. The SUV offers three-row seating and what Kia describes as generous cargo capacity, along with premium interior materials and an infotainment system the brand frames as intuitive.

The K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo is the hot-hatch variant of Kia’s compact K4 sedan platform. The GT-Line Turbo trim adds a turbocharged engine to the base K4’s naturally aspirated four-cylinder, though Kia does not publish horsepower or torque figures in the release. The hatchback body style increases cargo volume over the sedan; the GT-Line package adds visual differentiation and, presumably, suspension tuning, though specifics on dampers or anti-roll bars are not provided. Kia positions the K4 Hatchback as a value play in the compact hatchback segment, competing on price and connectivity features.

MAMA comprises nearly 300 automotive journalists and public relations professionals from across the United States and Canada. The Spring Rally brings journalists and manufacturers together for vehicle evaluations on public roads and at Road America, a 4.0-mile permanent road course. More than 75 journalists voted on awards in 2025; Kia’s release does not specify the voter count for 2026. The association evaluated more than 80 vehicles at the 2025 event.

Kia’s 2026 wins follow a pattern of recognition at MAMA rallies. The Carnival Hybrid SX Prestige tied for Favorite Family Vehicle at the 2025 Spring Rally. The 2024 EV9 won the Plug-In Vehicle award at the 2024 rally. Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N took the overall Favorite Vehicle award in 2025, evaluated by nearly 200 media professionals.

The Telluride and K4 Hatchback wins are category awards, not overall vehicle-of-the-event honors. MAMA’s Favorite Family Vehicle category pits three-row SUVs and minivans against one another; Favorite Affordable Vehicle is a price-restricted category, though Kia does not disclose the price cap MAMA applied or where the K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo lands relative to it.

Eric Watson, Kia America’s VP of Sales, offered standard executive commentary: the awards reflect Kia’s focus on delivering vehicles that resonate with a range of customers. The Telluride sets the benchmark for family SUVs; the K4 Hatchback brings style and value to the compact segment. Honored to see both recognized.

What the awards signal is less about the vehicles than about the segment strategies Kia is executing. The Telluride has been a volume driver for Kia since its 2019 launch, and the X-Pro variant extends the platform into the off-road-capable SUV space that Ford Bronco Sport, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Toyota 4Runner occupy. The K4 Hatchback is Kia’s attempt to hold ground in a shrinking compact hatchback market where Honda Civic, Mazda3, and Volkswagen Golf still compete. Winning journalist votes at a media rally does not move the sales needle, but it confirms that Kia’s bets on family haulers and affordable compacts are landing with the people who write about them.
