Subaru is betting that price is the fix for what ailed the Outback in 2026. Today the automaker announced 2027 Outback pricing built around a new entry-level trim at $32,995, cutting the cost of admission by $2,000 compared with the outgoing model and dropping prices across most of the lineup by an average of $1,000. For a nameplate that saw a 32.2 percent sales decline in the first quarter of 2026 as buyers adjusted to its redesigned seventh generation, cheaper is a reasonable prescription.

The pattern mirrors what Subaru did with the 2027 Impreza, which dropped $2,000 to $24,595 to reclaim its position as the most affordable AWD compact in the US. With the Outback, Subaru is applying the same logic to a larger and more lucrative segment, where the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5 set buyer expectations around value.

The New Base Trim

At $32,995, the entry-level Outback is not a stripped penalty box. It arrives with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a 2.5-liter 180 hp SUBARU BOXER engine paired with a CVT, X-MODE with Hill Descent Control, 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and EyeSight Driver-Assist Technology. Inside, buyers get a 12.1-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power rear gate with adjustable memory height. Towing capacity on the base trim is 2,700 pounds when properly equipped. Silver-finished 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are standard.

That equipment level would have been mid-trim content on the 2026 model, which started at $36,445. Subaru has essentially moved the goalpost: what costs $32,995 today equips comparably to what cost several thousand dollars more a year ago.

Trim-by-Trim Pricing

The Outback Premium stays at $34,995, unchanged from last year, and adds StarTex upholstery and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat over the base trim. Its options package (rain-sensing wipers, navigation, heated steering wheel, moonroof, and wireless charger) runs $2,045, down $225 from 2026.

From there the reductions compound. The Limited drops $1,720 to $39,995, adding leather upholstery with khaki contrast stitching, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, and heated rear seats. The Touring lands at $43,495, down $1,900, and brings Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, a surround view monitor, and the full expanded EyeSight suite: Emergency Stop Assist with Safe Lane Selection, Highway Hands-Free Assist, Highway Hands-Free Pre-Curve Speed Control, Active Lane Change Assist, and Automatic Resume Assist.

The turbocharged trims use a 2.4-liter BOXER producing 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. The Limited XT is $43,595, down $770, and now includes Highway Hands-Free Assist as standard equipment alongside the same expanded EyeSight features the Touring carries. The Touring XT tops the conventional lineup at $46,595, down $1,400 from last year.

The off-road-focused Outback Wilderness comes in at $43,995, down $1,000, with the turbocharged 2.4-liter engine, 9.5 inches of ground clearance, electronically controlled adaptive dampers, Dual-Mode X-MODE, all-terrain tires on 17-inch matte black alloy wheels, underbody protection, anodized copper interior accents, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon system as standard. Two options packages are available: a $1,995 pack adding a moonroof, navigation, and surround view monitor, or a $5,090 pack that layers in Nappa leather, ventilated front seats, power-adjustable seats front and rear, and the Highway Hands-Free suite. Subaru has not announced whether the Wilderness Highway Hands-Free package will be available at launch or arrive later in the model year.

New Colors and Market Timing

Three exterior colors join the palette: Sand Dune Pearl, Daybreak Blue Pearl, and Snowfall White Silica. The last of those is entirely new. Geyser Blue and Sand Dune Pearl are exclusive to the Wilderness. Premium paint across the board adds $395. Destination and delivery is $1,545 for most of the country, rising to $1,695 for Alaska and varying in Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The 2027 Outback is assembled in Gunma, Japan and arrives at retailers later this year.

Subaru has been aggressive with price cuts across its 2027 lineup. The 2027 Crosstrek held its $26,995 starting price while expanding the hybrid powertrain’s reach. Whether the Outback’s repricing reverses the first-quarter sales slide will show in the early 2027 retail numbers, but Subaru has given buyers considerably less reason to hesitate at the showroom than they had twelve months ago. A $32,995 Outback with standard AWD, EyeSight, and a full digital interior is a different value proposition than the one that struggled through early 2026. Subaru knows it, and priced accordingly.
