General Motors (GM) is recalling 56 units of its 2024 Chevrolet Colorado midsized pickups due to an issue with incorrectly installed tires. This problem results in the tires not matching the tire label, and the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may provide inaccurate information about the installed tires. This recall addresses a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims,” and No. 138, “Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.”

GM has determined that the affected 2024 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles do not meet the requirements of S4.3.3 of FMVSS No. 110 and S4.2(a) of FMVSS No. 138. The issue arises from installing incorrect tires that do not match the vehicle’s tire label. Additionally, the TPMS does not provide accurate information for these incorrect tires. This discrepancy can lead to owners selecting the wrong tire size when replacing tires and not receiving timely warnings if a tire’s pressure drops below 25% of the recommended cold inflation pressure.

If the tire label does not accurately reflect the installed tires, there is a risk that owners may choose the incorrect tire size when replacing tires. Furthermore, suppose the TPMS is not correctly set for the tires installed on the vehicle. In that case, drivers might not receive timely alerts if the tire pressure drops significantly, potentially increasing the risk of tire-related issues on the road.

To address this issue, GM has announced that dealers will inspect and replace the tires as necessary, free of charge. This action will ensure that the vehicle’s tire label and TPMS reflect accurate information, providing customers with correct and reliable data.
