Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling 6,212 of their 2024 Mustang vehicles due to an issue with the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). The IPC may not illuminate at startup or while driving, leading to non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 101, “Control and Displays,” and 102, “Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect.”
Consequence:
An instrument panel display that does not show critical information, such as warning lights or vehicle speed, increases the risk of a crash.
The affected vehicles are equipped with suspect Remote Cluster Box (RCB) software. These vehicles are not produced in VIN order. Specific vehicle applicability can be obtained by calling Ford’s toll-free line or by contacting a local Ford or Lincoln dealer who can access the Ford Online Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) database.
Remedy:
Dealers will update the IPC software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 11, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 24C35.
Notes:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit nhtsa.gov for additional information.
