Chevrolet confirmed the 2027 Silverado 1500 today with next-generation 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines, a redesigned exterior, and a seven-trim lineup that includes three lifted variants. The truck goes on sale by the end of this year as the replacement for the current fourth-generation Silverado 1500, which has been on sale since 2019.
The new V8s are the substantive news here. Chevrolet positions the naturally-aspirated engines as the most powerful V8 offering in the full-size truck class, built on more than 70 years of small-block heritage and assembled at GM’s Flint Engine Operations, Tonawanda Propulsion, and St. Catharines plants. Executive chief engineer Mark Dickens framed the development as focused on durability and real-world validation across towing scenarios and daily workloads. The engines share architecture with the recently announced Corvette LS6 6.7L V8, though Chevrolet has not disclosed horsepower, torque, or performance figures for either Silverado V8.
The powertrain lineup retains four options. Beyond the two new V8s, the enhanced 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder now pairs with a 10-speed transmission and delivers what Chevrolet calls best-in-class standard torque, though no torque number has been published. The Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel remains available as the segment-exclusive diesel option.

The 2027 Silverado 1500 ZR2 receives 35-inch MT tires, a two-inch lift, and a dedicated off-road hood with an enhanced power dome. Standard front and rear electronic locking differentials and Multimatic DSSV dampers paired with jounce dampers carry over from the prior ZR2. Inside, the ZR2 adds forged carbon-fiber trim on the doors and console, which Chevrolet identifies as the first use of real forged carbon on a GM ZR2 product. Torch Red accents, Torch Red-edged seatbelts, and dual wireless charging support the off-road flagship positioning.
The available ZR2 Bison Edition, developed with American Expedition Vehicles, adds distinctive front and rear AEV bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, and a full skid plate package covering the front underbody, transfer case, rear differential, and fuel tank. An AEV rear badge and all-weather floor liners complete the Bison package.
Trail Boss slots below ZR2 with 34-inch MT tires, a two-inch factory lift, and a dedicated off-road hood. Chevrolet frames Trail Boss as the attainable off-road option for customers who want lifted presence without stepping up to ZR2 pricing. Two unique interior themes offer Torch Red-edged seatbelts and seats with fabric accent inserts. Custom Trail Boss serves as the entry point into the lifted lineup with the same 34-inch tires and two-inch lift but a more basic equipment level.

The High Country flagship receives a panoramic sunroof, a first for Silverado. Two interior themes in light and dark configurations offer natural tan-edged seatbelts, real wood décor, Tritan Satin accents, and available microfiber suede materials. Outside, a new High Country badge, standard 22-inch After Midnight machine-faced wheels, and an exclusive Tritan Satin grille mark the top trim. The Multi-Flex center console features a debossed High Country logo.
Every 2027 Silverado 1500 receives a standard 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch driver information center. ZR2 and High Country add a standard 11.5-inch front passenger screen paired with a heads-up display and rear camera mirror, which Chevrolet describes as over 60 inches of digital displays. Super Cruise driver-assistance technology with trailering capability is available, a hands-free system that Chevrolet positions as segment-exclusive for towing applications.
The Silverado trim, formerly named LT, now includes standard Z71 content on 4WD configurations, adding skid plates, hill descent control, and off-road suspension. Custom trim receives dual exhaust and 20-inch Technical Gray machine-faced wheels as standard. Work Truck continues as the fleet-focused base model, engineered for commercial upfits and fleet uptime.

The 2027 Silverado 1500 competes against the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Toyota Tundra in the full-size truck segment. Chevrolet sold over 529,000 Silverado units in 2021 despite production constraints, though the company has not disclosed 2025 sales figures. The current fourth-generation Silverado launched in 2019, making the 2027 model the first full redesign in seven years.
Chevrolet has not announced pricing, detailed powertrain specifications, or a specific on-sale date beyond the year-end timeline. The absence of horsepower and torque figures for the new 5.7L and 6.6L V8s is notable, particularly given the most-powerful-V8-in-class claim. Those numbers will determine whether the claim holds against the Ram 1500’s 5.7L Hemi (395 hp) and the Ford F-150’s naturally-aspirated 5.0L V8 (400 hp), both of which remain on sale through the 2026 model year.
If you have been holding out for a redesigned Silverado with V8 power, the calendar is finally moving in your favor.
