2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Gets Sixth-Generation V8s, 35-Inch Tires, and 60 Inches of Screens

The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 lands late this year with two new V8 engines, a radically expanded screen array in the top trim, and 35-inch tires on the off-road variant. GMC calls it the truck all others will be measured against. The segment’s fourth-place finisher in Q3 2025 is making a volume play with hardware that neither Ford nor Chevrolet currently attempts at this price.

The powertrain news is a pair of sixth-generation Small Block V8s in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements. GMC frames the engines as advances in combustion, cooling, and control systems, with a new fuel injection system designed to optimize power and torque across daily driving, rock crawling, and towing. The company has not disclosed horsepower, torque, or 0-60 times. Both engines pair with a 10-speed automatic. The Sierra 1500 lineup will also offer an enhanced TurboMax inline-four that GMC says delivers best-in-class standard torque, plus the class-exclusive Duramax diesel. Detailed specs will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

As before, the Denali Ultimate is the flagship. It comes standard with the 6.6L V8, which GMC positions as the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. Inside, the truck packs more than 60 inches of combined digital displays across five screens: a 16.3-inch center infotainment display that articulates and hides storage behind it, an 11.5-inch front passenger screen with an articulating cover, a 12.2-inch driver information center, a 15-inch head-up display, and an 8.5-inch rear camera mirror. The center screen articulation is class-exclusive. So are the front head restraint-mounted speakers in the 16-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system. The passenger screen is the largest diagonal in its class and offers media and entertainment functions that the driver cannot see.

The articulating center screen integrates hidden storage behind the display. For the passenger screen, an articulating cover enables the transition between the full-front passenger screen and a slimmer display. GMC calls this execution a reset of expectations for what a truck can deliver. The Denali Ultimate also comes standard with a three-year Super Cruise subscription that includes trailering capability, enabling hands-free driving on more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada while towing. GMC says no competitor offers hands-free towing in this class.

The exterior is all-new. Machine precision forms, a more vertical grille, available quad exhaust outlets, and the evolution of GMC’s signature headlamps and taillamps with available welcome and farewell animations. Inside, completely redesigned interiors across every trim level include available real wood trim accents, forged wood on Denali Ultimate, available panoramic sunroof, and what GMC claims is best-in-class standard crew cab front head and leg room.

The available MultiPro center console opens to create an extended work surface and allows access to USB charge ports without compromising the clean appearance or comfort for long-distance travel. Denali Ultimate features exclusive colorways and premium materials designed to position Sierra decisively upmarket without compromising durability or capability.

AT4X Adds Hardware, Not Just Badges

The AT4X is the off-road story. GMC fitted it with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, a Sierra first. New Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers are tuned to manage high-speed off-road impacts and rough surfaces while maintaining precision and composure. Front and rear e-locking differentials work with different drive modes to optimize traction on a variety of surfaces. GMC says the combination of front and rear e-lockers is not offered on any competitor in its class.

The AT4X gets a unique hood design, a two-inch suspension lift, and a new front fascia. Inside, an exclusive Timber Mahogany colorway balances durability and comfort, with front seats with enhanced bolstering, a sport flat-bottom steering wheel, and a standard panoramic sunroof. Details include perforation patterns, piping, quilting, embroidery, and stainless steel door speaker grilles. For customers who want to take off-road performance further, GMC will continue to offer the AEV Edition package on the 2027 Sierra 1500.

The full 2027 Sierra 1500 lineup will also include Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali trims, each offering a distinct combination of design, technology, and capability. The first 2027 Sierra 1500 models are expected to arrive at GMC dealerships before the end of the 2026 calendar year.

The Sierra has logged 12 consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth, the only truck to claim that milestone. In Q3 2025, the Sierra finished fourth in full-size truck sales with 85,438 units, behind the Ford F-Series at 197,727 units, Chevrolet Silverado at 138,873 units, and Ram Pickup at 88,066 units. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 starts at $39,695 while a similarly equipped GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $41,095. The Denali Ultimate delivers a level of truck luxury that neither Ford nor Chevrolet currently attempts.

Whether the screen array and the hardware upgrades close the volume gap or simply hold the line against Ram is the question the next 12 months will answer. The specs that matter most are still undisclosed.
