The Power Wagon has always been the heavy-duty pickup that prioritizes trail capability over towing credentials. Now it does both. Ram has opened orders for the 2027 Ram 2500 Power Wagon equipped with the 6.7-liter Cummins High-Output turbo diesel inline-six, starting at $89,560 including destination, with trucks due at dealerships in the third quarter of 2026.
The diesel option answers a question Power Wagon buyers have been raising for years. The 6.4-liter HEMI V8 is the truck’s traditional engine, and it remains available, but the Cummins H.O. brings a different kind of capability: up to 2,930 pounds of payload and 19,630 pounds of towing, figures the gas engine cannot match. The 1,075 lb-ft of base diesel torque is what makes that math possible, and Ram is leaning into it with towing technology packages that weren’t previously on the Power Wagon diesel menu.
None of those towing numbers come at the expense of the off-road hardware that defines the nameplate. The Power Wagon with Cummins diesel carries the full suite: a segment-exclusive electronic disconnecting front sway bar, electronic locking front and rear differentials (ELocker), solid front and rear axles measuring 9.25 inches at the front and 11.5 inches at the rear with 38mm rear axle shafts, Bilstein monotube shocks, underbody skid plates covering the DEF tank, fuel tank, and transfer case, and Mopar rock rails. Ground clearance is 13.2 inches, with a 26.1-degree approach angle, 26-degree departure angle, and 20.6-degree breakover angle. Thirty-four-inch all-terrain tires and Hill Descent Control round out the standard off-road specification.

Standard technology includes a 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, Blind-Spot Monitoring with trailer coverage, Pedestrian Detection, Rear Cross Path detection, ParkSense front and rear park assist, and an integrated trailer brake controller. Ram’s Level 1 and Level 2 Equipment Groups stack additional equipment on top. Level 1 adds Bristol leather-trim seating, power-adjustable and heated power convex trailer tow mirrors with power-folding, power-telescoping, and memory, and a nine-speaker Alpine audio system with subwoofer. Level 2 steps up to Natura Plus leather throughout the cabin, upgrades the screen to a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 unit, adds a segment-exclusive 10.25-inch front passenger interactive display, installs a 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with subwoofer, and includes a cargo-view camera integrated into the center high-mounted stop lamp, a Mopar spray-in bedliner, Mopar deployable bed step, and Tire Fill Alert.
Two towing technology packages extend the truck’s trailer management capabilities further. The Towing Technology Group adds an LED third brake light with cargo-view camera, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, trailer reverse guidance, and trailer tire-pressure monitoring. The Tow Technology Plus Group layers a Digital Rearview Mirror 3.0 and trailer reverse steering control on top. For 2027, the Power Wagon diesel gains fifth wheel and gooseneck preparation as an option for the first time, a meaningful addition for buyers who use the truck’s towing capacity in a work or livestock context.

Styling carries over the Power Wagon’s established look: a sport-performance hood, functional wheel arch extensions, powder-coated steel bumpers front and rear, standard bedside graphics, and Satin Black accents. Cummins badging on the front fenders signals the engine choice to anyone standing at the curb.
The Power Wagon’s off-road reputation has never been in doubt. What the Cummins H.O. adds is a reason for heavy-duty buyers who have been eyeing the Power Wagon’s trail hardware but needed the diesel’s towing numbers to finally stop looking at other trucks.
