Volkswagen is adding a gaming platform to six of its 2027 models, letting parked occupants play multiplayer titles on the infotainment screen using their smartphones as controllers. The platform is AirConsole, developed by Swiss company N-Dream, and it launches with a catalog of 20 games including PAC-MAN Championship Edition, UNO Car Party!, and Tetris.
The feature lands on the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI, Golf R, and ID. Buzz. Players scan a QR code on the infotainment display to pair their smartphones, no additional hardware required. Select games also support ambient lighting integration on compatible trims, meaning the cabin lights respond to gameplay. Volkswagen-branded variants of PAC-MAN, Golazo!, and Memory Match are exclusive to the platform, with power pellets replaced by VW logos and bonus fruits swapped for iconic Volkswagen models.
AirConsole is not a standalone app. It comes bundled inside Volkswagen’s In-Vehicle Premium connected services tier, which also covers Wi-Fi hotspot capability, Premium Navigation, and Premium Speech. The 2027 Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, and Golf models include three complimentary months from the date of purchase; the ID. Buzz gets a full year. After those trial periods expire, continued access costs $149 per year. Enrollment through the myVW app is required.
Volkswagen is positioning itself as the first volume automotive brand in the United States to offer this kind of in-vehicle gaming. That framing is narrowly constructed. N-Dream already supplies AirConsole to BMW, Audi, Porsche, and Skoda globally, with BMW having launched the platform on the 7 Series. The “volume brand in the U.S.” qualifier is doing real work in that sentence.
The catch for buyers is the subscription gate. AirConsole is included in the same $149-per-year tier that covers navigation and connected safety features added to the 2027 lineup. Anyone who wants gaming beyond the trial period is paying for the full connected services bundle, not gaming alone. Volkswagen has not announced whether AirConsole will be available as a standalone purchase outside of In-Vehicle Premium.
N-Dream controls the game catalog independently; Volkswagen acknowledges in its own fine print that titles are subject to change, discontinuation, or cancellation without notice. The 20-game launch library is a starting point, not a fixed offering.
For a platform aimed at families killing time in parking lots and EV charging stations, the parked-only restriction and the smartphone-controller setup are practical compromises. The 2027 Atlas Cross Sport’s 15-inch infotainment screen is a reasonable canvas for a casual multiplayer session. Whether the $149 annual subscription justifies itself depends almost entirely on how much a given buyer uses the navigation and Wi-Fi hotspot features alongside it. AirConsole alone probably doesn’t move the needle. Bundled with everything else in that tier, it’s a reasonable add.
