1997 GMC Sierra K1500 SLE 4×4 with LS6 V8 Power

Classic GMC Pickup Enhanced with Corvette-Spec Engine...

This 1997 GMC Sierra K1500 SLE 4×4 combines classic styling with a powerful engine upgrade, giving the truck a unique blend of performance and vintage appeal. Originally registered in California, the truck later made its way to Kentucky, where the current owner acquired it in 2019. Since then, it’s received some notable updates, including the installation of a 5.7-liter (350 cubic-inch) LS6 V8 engine—a Corvette-spec powerplant originally designed for the C5 Z06—and a 4L70E four-speed automatic transmission sourced from Chevrolet Performance.

Finished in Fire Red over gray cloth upholstery, the Sierra retains the rugged charm of GMC’s GMT400 trucks with the added power of a modern V8. The engine retrofit project also included a new ECU, engine wiring harness, and a 304 stainless-steel exhaust system with replacement catalytic converters. For enhanced durability, the truck’s cast iron exhaust manifolds have been treated with a ceramic coating.

Equipped with the Z71 off-road package, the Sierra has the capability to handle both on-road and off-road adventures. It features an electronically controlled dual-range transfer case, a locking rear differential, and a receiver hitch for towing. The exterior includes chrome bumpers, Z71 bed graphics, and a rubber bed mat, while a previous drop-in bed liner was removed, and the bed was repainted for a cleaner finish.

Inside, the Sierra’s cabin is upholstered in gray cloth with color-coordinated panels and carpet. It’s equipped with air conditioning, power windows, locks, and mirrors, as well as cruise control for a comfortable driving experience. Notable interior features include a tilting steering column, a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, and an analog gauge cluster with a 100-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. While the truck is well-preserved overall, a few minor issues are present: the remote key fob is inoperative, the passenger-side lumbar support does not inflate, and the functionality of the cassette player is uncertain.

The Sierra rides on optional 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels mounted with 265/75 Firestone Destination LE2 tires. Braking power is supplied by anti-lock front discs and rear drums, providing balanced stopping power. With a mileage of 72,000 on the odometer, this 1997 GMC Sierra K1500 SLE 4×4 remains in great condition and is offered with its original window sticker, owner’s manual, partial service records, and a clean Carfax report.
