EVgo Inc. and General Motors (GM) have reached a major milestone in their joint effort to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the United States. The two companies announced the opening of their 2,000th public fast-charging stall, marking a significant step toward their goal of creating a robust nationwide charging network.

Charging Across the Nation –

Since the start of their collaboration, EVgo and GM have established fast-charging stalls at over 390 locations in 45 metropolitan markets across 32 states. These charging sites are strategically placed in high-traffic areas such as grocery stores, retail centers, and urban hubs. By focusing on convenient, amenity-rich locations, the partnership aims to serve EV drivers who may not have access to at-home or workplace charging, including renters and residents of multifamily housing.

A Path to 2,850 Stalls –

The milestone is part of a larger commitment by EVgo and GM to roll out 2,850 DC fast-charging stalls nationwide. This includes plans for 400 flagship locations in key markets like California, Florida, Michigan, and Texas. These flagship sites will offer cutting-edge charging technology and amenities to ensure a premium charging experience.

In August 2023, the companies celebrated their 1,000th charging stall in Woodbridge, Illinois, and have since doubled their footprint in just over a year.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Accessibility –

The 2,000th stall is part of a new charging station in Murrieta, California, featuring five 350kW fast chargers capable of simultaneously charging up to 10 vehicles. Situated near Interstate 215, the station offers access to nearby dining, shopping, and coffee shops. This site received support from the California Energy Commission through its FAST program, highlighting the importance of public funding in advancing EV infrastructure.

Building Range Confidence for EV Drivers –

EVgo President Dennis Kish emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Our partnership with GM has brought charging options to communities in over 30 states. Reaching 2,000 stalls is a significant achievement as we continue to expand our network and provide range confidence to both current and future EV drivers.”

GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer echoed this sentiment: “This milestone reflects our shared commitment to enhancing the EV ownership experience by building a reliable and accessible fast-charging network across the country.”

By focusing on accessibility, convenience, and advanced charging technology, the two companies are not only supporting the current wave of EV adoption but also laying the foundation for the future of electric mobility.

With the first flagship destinations set to open next year, EVgo and GM remain committed to their shared vision of a cleaner and more connected transportation landscape.
