General Motors (GM) has announced a recall affecting 151 midsize pickup trucks, specifically the 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon models. This recall has been prompted by a potential safety issue involving improperly tightened seat belt bolts in these vehicles.
What’s the Issue?
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Campaign Number 24V703000, the seat belt buckle attachment bolts for either the driver’s or passenger’s seat in the front of these trucks may not have been tightened properly during manufacturing. A loose seat belt bolt could result in the seat belt not functioning as intended during an accident, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants.
Models Affected –
The recall specifically targets a small number of GM’s midsize pickups:
- 2023-2024 Chevrolet Colorado
- 2023 GMC Canyon
A total of 151 units are affected by this issue.
What Should Owners Do?
GM has stated that owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly. Starting November 4, 2024, owners will receive notification letters explaining the issue and instructing them to visit a certified GM dealership. Dealers will inspect and tighten the seat belt buckle attachment bolts on both the left and right front seats, free of charge.
How to Get More Information –
Owners of the affected vehicles can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 for further assistance. GM has designated this recall with the number N242453720.
Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline is available at 1-888-327-4236, and more information can be found on their website at www.nhtsa.gov.
Importance of Timely Repairs –
Although this recall involves a relatively small number of vehicles, it addresses an important safety concern. Properly functioning seat belts are critical to occupant protection during a collision, and GM urges affected owners to take action once they receive their recall notice.
