Jeep® is expanding its lineup in Mexico by introducing the updated 2024 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe. This marks the first time the Wrangler 4xe has been offered in the Mexican market.
The move aligns with the American adventure brand’s mission of becoming the greenest off-road brand in the world. The electrified Wrangler 4xe plays a crucial role in this mission, adhering to the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which aims to reduce the company’s global carbon footprint by 50% by 2030.
Advanced Propulsion System –
The 2024 Wrangler 4xe boasts the most advanced propulsion system ever developed for a Wrangler. This system combines efficiency and sustainability, offering a fuel consumption rate of 21 kilometers per liter (21 km/L) or 49.4 MPGe and providing more than 33 kilometers or 21 miles of pure electric range, sufficient for most daily commutes and extended off-road adventures.
The propulsion system includes two electric motors and a 400-volt Samsung 17 kWh battery with 96 lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt cells paired with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder engine from the Stellantis Global Medium Engine (GME) family with an integrated generator and an 8-speed PHEV automatic transmission with integrated generator sourced from ZF. This PHEV configuration maximizes efficiency and seamlessly integrates with the Wrangler’s renowned drivetrain.
The 2024 Wrangler 4xe delivers an impressive 375 horsepower (280 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. (637 Nm) of torque.
Versatile Driving Modes –
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4xe offers three E-Selec modes, allowing drivers to tailor the hybrid propulsion system to their specific needs:
- Hybrid Mode: This default mode combines the torque of the 2.0-liter engine and the electric motor. It prioritizes battery power first, then seamlessly adds the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine when the battery reaches its minimum charge level.
- Electric Mode: In this mode, the Wrangler operates solely on electric power, delivering zero emissions until the battery reaches its minimum charge or the driver requires more torque (such as during hard acceleration), which activates the 2.0-liter engine.
- eSave Mode: This mode prioritizes the 2.0-liter gasoline engine, conserving battery charge for later use. This is particularly useful for off-road driving or in urban areas where internal combustion engines may be restricted. Within eSave, drivers can choose between Battery Saving and Battery Charging through the Hybrid Pages function on the Uconnect 5 touchscreen.
Introducing the Wrangler 4xe to the Mexican market marks a significant step in Jeep’s journey toward sustainability and innovation. Jeep has yet to announce which trims will be available with the 4xe powertrain and pricing. We expect that to come in the upcoming weeks.
