Jeep is betting that the Cherokee nameplate can carve out a specific niche in the crowded compact hybrid SUV segment: the one that actually earns its off-road badge. Revealed today, the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk pairs a 210 hp 1.6-liter turbo hybrid powertrain with Trail Rated hardware serious enough to have been tested at Moab and Sand Hollow before production begins.
The off-road numbers matter here. Approach angle is 28.8 degrees, departure angle is 31.8 degrees, and ramp breakover comes in at 21.9 degrees, with Jeep claiming best-in-class standing for all three figures. Ground clearance sits at 22.98 cm (9 inches) thanks to a 2.5 cm (1-inch) suspension lift with unique spring and damper tuning. That lift produces a 45-point improvement in Ramp Travel Index over standard Cherokee models, the metric engineers use to measure suspension articulation. Water fording depth checks in at 60.9 cm (24 inches), which Jeep says is a class exclusive.
Underneath, the Trailhawk runs Jeep Active Drive II with Lock Mode and a standard two-speed power transfer unit carrying a 2.92 low-range ratio and a 37.5:1 crawl ratio. Both are class-exclusive items. Five Selec-Terrain modes are standard: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock. Steel skid plates protect the front axle, wiring, and fuel tank, and a dedicated protection plate covers the hybrid battery. Combined fuel economy is rated at 31 MPG (7.5 L/100 km), which is a reasonable figure given everything the hardware asks of the drivetrain.
The Trailhawk’s exterior sets it apart from the rest of the Cherokee lineup with a gloss black upper fascia unique to this model, red front and rear tow hooks, and a hood-mounted anti-glare Trailhawk graphic. Wheel diameter stays at 17 inches but with two unique designs wrapped in Nexen Rodian ATX all-terrain tires sized 245/65R17. Inside, Mantis Green upholstery with red accent stitching and embossed logo distinguishes the cabin, alongside a Black Spun Aluminum shift-dial finish and a Radical Red bezel around the transmission dial, a detail shared with the 2027 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk at the top of the Jeep off-road lineup.
Standard equipment is generous. Every Cherokee Trailhawk ships with a 10.25-inch digital driver cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, LED headlamps and taillamps, fog lamps, power heated front seats, heated steering wheel, memory seating and mirrors, and a foot-activated power liftgate. Three optional packages extend the spec further: a Sun and Sound package adds dual-pane sunroof and Alpine audio; a trailering package enables the 1,587 kg (3,500 lb) tow rating; and the Advanced Pro Tech Group adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, front and rear camera washers, and a 360-degree camera system.
Production starts later this year at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Complex. Canadian pricing begins at $57,490 including the $2,395 destination and additional fees, with orders opening later this year. Jeep has not announced a US market price or on-sale date for the Cherokee Trailhawk. The Cherokee competes against the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Honda CR-V Hybrid in compact SUV territory, both of which lack the two-speed transfer case and locking rear axle that define the Trailhawk’s off-road proposition.
The Cherokee name sat dormant after the fifth generation ended its run in 2023, returning with the redesigned 2026 model to compete squarely in the hybrid segment. The Trailhawk adds the argument that hybrid efficiency and genuine 4×4 hardware are not mutually exclusive. Whether buyers in this segment were asking for that combination is what the order books will tell Jeep.
